Winter White Litter Progression

8 weeks old. By this stage they have done most of their growing, and will be capable of reproduction (females should not be bred below 16 weeks - the point they are considered fully grown).

3.5 weeks. Pups are weaned and independant of adults. At this age males may be moved to live with Dad.

15 days. Pups are miniture versions of the adults.

2 weeks old. Pups will still suckle (upside down pup at bottom right), but will happily eat solids and come out to explore the cage.

12 days old. Most pups will have opened their eyes. Assuming Mum does not panic when a hand goes near, it is now considered "safe" to handle the babies.

11 days old. Pups eyes may start to open (pup on the left is 'peeping'), they will be trying to leave the nest much more.

10 days old. Pups are now very active and try to leave the nest to explore and nibble at solid food.

8 days old. Grey belly fur becomes obvious.

6 days old. Pups are starting to fur up, the brown colouration becomes visible.

5 days old. Pictures shows litter of pearls and normals.
Normals are darker than the previous day, growing steadily. At this age pearls still look pink.

4 days old. Ears are no longer stuck flat to the side of the pup's head.

3 days old, its now quite clear that this is a litter of normals!

2 days old. Pups start to become pigmented. This litter are all wild type colour.

1 day old, still unpigmented but less red than newborns.
